Diaper Drive - August
Our United Way holds an annual Diaper Drive in August, and we’ve been known to have some fun—no ifs, ands, or butts about it—as we collect the generous donations. But there is nothing funny about the real need in our region for clean diapers.
Some facts to consider :
One in three American families report experiencing diaper need. Diapers are a basic need for all babies and their families, yet some caregivers are not able to provide enough diapers to get through the day.
Infants and toddlers need about eight to 12 diapers per day. Diapers can cost over $100 per month, per child. Because of this, many families decide between changing a diaper or paying a utility bill or buying food each month. Food Stamps and WIC cannot be used to buy diapers even though diapers are a basic need for infants and toddlers.
If it’s August, check out our Diaper Drop Off locations, and drop off a box of disposable diapers or some wipes. The sizes most in demand are 4, 5, and 6. Pull-Up training pants are helpful too!
All of the diapers and wipes we collect go to these partner agencies, who have their own diaper banks for families in need:
